Montreal Real Estate Blog:  One Good Earth

My Montreal real estate blog which I call “One Good Earth” was created in honor of mother earth, this glorious earth which so generously and unconditionally nourishes and sustains us on this planet. When I think about the earth, I can’t help but reflect upon the beauty inherent in nature’s design. Nature’s bounty and abundance is evident everywhere we look…..

There’s so much wisdom and knowledge in the perfection of natural systems of which we still have little understanding……All I do know is that the time has come for us to rethink our relationship with nature and our place within the scheme of things. Modern civilization has progressed to the point where our constant expansion is having dire consequences on the planet’s ecosystems. Everything exists in relationship to the other and with the extinction of many species, we don’t yet understand that which we are breaking.

Real Estate makes up a huge portion of the built environment all across the world and sustainability is being discussed from countries to corporations to inspired individuals taking action to implement more sustainable choices. While this is all positive there seems to be this disconnect between our cityscape and the sense of nature that exists all around us. We’ve built our cities on an infrastructural base of concrete and asphalt, both of which are the worst materials in terms of their heat effect.  How insane will the weather disruptions have to get before change is forced upon us. Can we be more proactive in our choices, finding solutions to some of the most plaguing problems on the planet like waste, energy efficiency and food production, conservation, etc….

My intention with this blog is to feature ideas, discussions and thoughts around companies, concepts and people that are attempting to tackle these issues. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed sharing this with you.

To quote Albert Einstein on insanity, “To keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result is a form of insanity.” So if we’re not happy with the status quo of our planet and climate, it’s time to take action and figure out some solutions.

What's Next for Montreal's Red Hot Real Estate Market 2021 So you're here because you want to know what's next for Montreal's red hot real estate market 2021. I don't blame you, as I myself am asking that question. There's no crystal ball and I don't claim to have prognosticator abilities. Based on what I see from the past year as we've emerged from COVID, prices have and continue to rise based on low inventory levels. Low interest rates help fuel the demand  but over the past two months  mortgages have risen several points from there all time lows. My advice,...

What Montreal Rents Look Like By Neighborhood What Montreal rents look like by neighborhood tells several stories. The graphics and data via Square Feet AI, shows how Villeray has scaled massively in rent values over the years. It also shows the areas where the highest rents per square foot can be found. The chart is based on monthly rent for an average 2 bedroom unit. Pointe Claire, Le Plateau, Ville Marie and Le Sud Ouest, which is comprised of St Henri, Pointe St Charles, Griffintown and Ville Emard, Cote St Paul are neighborhoods garnishing some of the highest rent values per...

Montreal Market Performance January 2021 Montreal Market Performance January 2021 shows a real estate market that has continued to outperform last year's numbers. Sales for single family homes of all kinds have been in high demand and short supply, driving prices higher. Condos have also performed well, but appear to be in a more balanced market depending on the neighborhood and price point. Demand is still strong in many neighborhoods in greater Montreal, but for single family homes, the West Island offers more space for less $$$'s. The farther you travel out from the city center, the more bang you get for...

COVID-19 and Montreal's Changing Real Estate Trends COVID-19 and Montreal's changing real estate trends contain themes we see playing out across North America. As Montreal is now well into it's second wave of the pandemic we can clearly see some emerging trends. With most of the population spending more time at home and in some cases becoming the new work from home set up, more Montrealers are prioritizing homeownership and seeking out as much indoor and outdoor space as they can afford to improve their quality of life while working-from-home and social distancing. According to recent stats from the Royal Lepage Report,...
